Engine Differences???

I have a 1985 rx7 and it has a 12a engine. I was wondering i i could fit a second gen 13b into it and if i could how much of a pain it would be?

Also i was wondering on the difference in hp and possible hp with turbos or porting. Im up for suggestions on you guys' preferences and opinions.

Thanks

Joshua

You can fit a 13b in it. It's pretty much bolt-on if I'm correct(with 13b GLS-SE parts). But if you want a lot of power, then you should also get a stronger transmission, back-end ect.

the tranny will need to be changed but the rear end should work fine as long as you dont beat the hell out of it.

81 to 85 tranny can hold up to 200+ HP, a Turbo2 tranny is of course better....
find a thread on this here in the forum.. its been done many times over

this is a topic that seems to come up as often as the "tailpipe flames"-topic in the Gen II forum. so one more time ... you can fit any 13B into any Gen I car. you can put any motor into anything! with a 13B swap, the problems do not come from fitting the motors into the chassis', they come from choosing your setup - what are your plans for intake? that's the issue!

you should easily be able to top 250 HP with a bridgeport setup (the terminal HP will vary according to the intake you choose to run) - it should be obvious that you'll need to be running a VERY low restriction exhaust system. with a turbo ... your wallet's the real limit!

all 13B's displace 1308cc versus the 12A's 1146cc ... so draw your own conclusion as to how much bigger they are.

it is not necessary to use a Gen II (NA) tranny, they are just as weak as the Gen I trannies - which really isn't that weak. they can handle 400+ HP if they are not being raced constantly. if you're going to be racing and torque is an issue for you, then you can use the T2 or REPU trannies. the T2 tranny swap is discussed in the "T2 into GSL-SE" sticky thread ... check it out.
