Engine Diagnoses
Hey everyone: I was hoping you could lend me your ears for a moment, and then help me consider the possibilities of the following:
I have an 84 GSL SE with the 13b engine. It was bought under the understanding that the engine did not run. I'm thinking of replacing it anyway, however I like to know whats wrong with it before I do so. Besides, if its fixeable then I'd prefer to do it.
Allright. After reading this https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=162062
I have determined the following: Each spark plug has spark. However, the plugs are extremely covered in oil, carbon and smell like gas. putrid gas smell.
I preformed the simple "Yes or No" test to determine if the rotors have compression. The front made NO noise, at all. When I removed the spark plug to listen for the PSTTS of air, I heard absolutely nothing at all. When I removed the rear rotor, I heard very very strong Psssts all the way around the 3 cycles. I redid the test to make sure, and the front rotor does NOT make any sound at all compared to the back.
So, Diagnoses? What part of that engine is dead? Any ideas or something I could try further to find out without opening the engine up?

Front rotor either has 2 or more apex seals stuck compressed into their slots or the front rotor lost an apex seal which took out the other apex seals (happened to me). Easiest way to check is to pull off the exhaust and look into the exhaust ports with a flashlight while someone turns the engine sklowly by hand. It will be obvious if all the seals are there, but stuck or if you tossed an apex seal.
