Cool Engine Builder Recommendations.

Need some insight?

The car is an 85 SE pristine, never seen snow or
rain. 34,000 mi. Currently have tokico adj, short
shifter, RB header system, all pollution off, RB
springs & sway bar & K&N.

Short on power as we all know. With a budget of
$8,500 where would you go for the engine. Love
NA plus FI, leary of turbo reliability and possible
detonation. Keeping in mind light flywheel and
stand alone efi are part of the budget.

Have talked to Nick at Rotary Reliability and Rob
at Pineapple, both have different routes to
250HP NA.

With this budget, would you go in a different
direction. Like the simplicity and aka no problems
with FI, as has been the case with this car.

Thanks,
SE in Minneapolis

Jeff

I would start with an 89 motor and your usual upgrades
i.e. full exhaust, stand alone ems or piggy back afc

maybe get a rebuilt 89 that has been ported

yea a good porting job would be a good route to 250. either get an 89 motor or get the 88 and below and do the intake manifold swap....i heard that adds 20 hp approx.
