Engine bay and delooming questions

Ok, I've got all the loomin off, and have the passenger side harness stripped down to what I'm actually going to use, with one exception. On my wiring diagram there is a piece refered to as "short connection" it's basically a loop from the emission control unit from "V" to "H". Anyone know what it is? I left it just in case, but can't find a description of it's function.
Second question. I'd really like to try to wash up the firewall and inside panels, but I have to do all my work in an open carport, (ie. covered but exposed to the outside) any suggestions? I'm afraid of using a bucket of soap and water as it would probably sheet everything in a coat of ice. Not to mention I have to crawl under there soon to hook up my exhaust, etc. But I'd hate to have it this stripped down and just put it all back together dirty too. Any tips, tricks, or ideas appreciated.

An FYI to all considering delooming, DO NOT until the weather is warmer or you have a shop/garage to work in. OMG! hard to peel stiff wires, especially when your fingers are numb!

Lay a piece of plastic sheeting under the car. Spray the bay with foaming engine degreaser. Then get a bucket of hot water, as hot as you can stand, vinyl/neoprene gloves and a scotch brite pad. Start at the top and work your way down. As each area is cleaned, towel it off or do a final rinse with water straight from the hot water heater and wipe with towels or blow dry with a hair dryer..

LMAO! Thanks! Feel like a moron not thinking of that myself. Good thing is I have alot of grease and dirt, but can't find any rust. So, a good cleaning should do wonders.

Yeah, bad enough it's my first rotary work at all, and the first deloom, (old muscle cars don't have hardly any wires ) but I'm tryin to rewire for DLIDFIS as well and a battery relocation with a second gen alt and aftermarket fuel pump and regulator too! Since the car was never running since I bought it, with all this work and stripping the emissions and adding the mods .......... The job seems overwhelming and the possibility for major **** ups is huge. I'll consider it an accomplishment if the damned thing fires when I get done!
