Electronic ignition
The ignition on 80-85 1st gens is electronic BTW. It uses magnetic pickups and ignitors as opposed to breaker points.
But, to answer your question. To run the FC ignition you'd have to transfer everything including the ECU as it controls the timing. Hardly worth the trouble especially since the 1st gen. system can be made to work just as well by converting the leading to direct fire.

Trailing direct fire would be good but unfortunately there's no easy way to achieve this with the 1st gen. ignition.
With the leading you simply fire both plugs together in wasted spark mode. This isn't possible on the trailing though as the wasted spark would ignite the incoming mixture due to the position of the plug in the rotor housing. 2nd gens are able to get around this by having the ECU tell each trailing coil when to fire.
Try doing a search for DLIDFIS, direct fire and MSD as there's a shitload of threads on this subject.
