Electrical problems in the '84

My 1984 GSL some electrical problems in the cab. The interior lights, rear wiper motor, rear defrost, Tachometer, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge do not work. The intrument panel lights do work along with all the exterior lights. Going off the Haynes manuel and what I have taken apart and tested I believe the problem with the insrtument panel is either in the comination meters or in the panel itself. The switches for the rear wiper and defrost have power going to them but they go through the combination meters behind the instrument panel as well. The interior lights I have not dealt with those yet, so I'm open to suggetions. thank you

(note: The combiation meters are the two plugs that go into the instrument panel. I am calling them that, because that is what haynes calls them. sorry for any confusion.)

What I'm asking is does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions on how to fix these problems? Anything would be helpful

so you end up getting power right to the conections for the back of the dash ? if so then yes, it is most likely something with the insterment cluster. If not then its the wiring or fuse, youll just have to trace it.

If you have the insturment cluster off, then have a look on the back , do some continuity tests and make sure that none, of the wires are shot.

it sounds like a ground issue....

I know my tach doesn't say it's is idling at the right r.p.m sometimes. I don't know why it does that but it does. How can I fix that? My stereo also makes this popping noise, cutting onand off, well the headunit doesn't cut on and off just the sounds. Can someone help me?

Do you mean the engine is idleing correctly, but the tach says other wise? or your engine is not ideling correctly at all. As for the radio you may have loose wire connections at the speakers or the radio unit, or the speakers are going out.
