Electrical problem

Some time ago I ran a wire from the post on the alternator to the battery on the advice that the battery would charge better. That was some time ago.

Well Ive started to have charging problems agian. And the car reads under 12 volts When I remove the wire that I put in the car will not start. I guess that means something between the battery cable and the car has blown out. And this wire is replacing whatever it was.

Anyone have any idea what Ive got going on here?

And I dont know if this helps or not but the hot start assist system has quit working as well. Is there some kind of voltage regulator on these things?
