i think i got the right one

its a 1990 taurus sho 3.0lr fan

is that the one that u all say to get?

ig ot it for 10.00

I got an E-fan out of a taurus and mine looks like this...



Mine didn't come out of a SHO taurus though. I just got mine out of a regular V6 taurus. Maybe they're the same, I'm not sure. I can proudly say that I don't know the ins and outs of the 90's Ford lineup. Anyway... I think this is what the correct E-fans look like. I believe that the fans out of the SHO taurus' were a single speed fan? Mine is a 2 speed so i just set it up to use the highest speed when it is on. I think that's the only difference. Either way, I think if it looks like the one in the picture you have yourself a useable E-fan for $10.00.

Yeah, I am running mine off of a switch as well. I tried the whole adjustable thermostat thing but it wouldn't work. The thermostat always kept the fan on. I even turned the thermostat all the way up and it still came on, with the car off.

A few words of advice as far as using a switch to turn the fan on and off. Make sure you have a fuse in the circuit (I used a 30 amp fuse), and make sure your switch can handle at least 30 amps. If not you might have a mess on your hands. I bought one of those fuse holders at the local parts store and just wired it into the circuit, and put the fuse in it. Make sure you get a pretty heavy duty one. I hooked the fan up to the switch then, so that the switch breaks the circuit when you flip it and shuts the fan off. I mounted a small toggle switch under the left side of the dash where I had a blank for a switch. I took the plastic cover for the blank and drilled a hole to accept the switch, popped it in and wired it up. Works good and looks pretty close to stock also. Now I just can't forget to turn the thing on when I drive the car...

Some people have also mentioned using relays, but I didn't use one because my fan is on its own circuit. Maybe this is wrong and unsafe, but all I know is it works, and it is the best and safest way I could think of to do it. You may want to look into using an adjustable thermostat also, but I got tired of messing with it, and wasting money with my fruitless experiments. I ended up just doing it like I described above. If I can find some pics of my setup I'll post them on here sometime..... Good Luck!

thanks for advice will i have to take out my radiator?

or can i just olt it up where the fan shroud goes currently?

It would probably make things easier to just take the radiator out, hook up the fan and put it back in. But it can also be done with the rad in place. I think most people use some rather large zip ties to hook up the fan, as the radiator matches up almost perfectly with the shroud on the taurus fan. Here is a pic of mine installed...

I don't know... I've never driven her... I drove it once when I bought it. It had a bad water pump, so I topped off the coolant and hauled @ss home before she lost all the coolant. The drive was less than a mile so luckily I made it home before she heated up. My car isn't registered and I'm just restoring her. Looks like I might be unveiling her this summer though. I fired her up a couple of times after putting the e-fan on, but the stock nikki was in such poor shape it wasn't running right. I really haven't driven the car enough to know if there is a difference or not, but I must say she loves to rev and it is the smoothest car I've ever sat and idled in my driveway. It is probably one of the best $10-$20 modifications you'll ever do to your car... You won't be disappointed my friend...

i have a taurus fan as well but i paid a lot more u lucky dog you. i have a temp control relay works good for me. but i did a little modification to my fan youll notice the closed spots on the fan well i was expieriencing what i thought to be heat soak from the fan pushing air while i was cruising and woould get a little hot so i layed out a pattern on the closed spots on fan then with large drill bit drilled out holes for improved air flow and believe it or not it worked im serious it looks good as well since the holes are layed out well, sorry no pics. i paid 60 for my fan i know i got ripped but my fan clutch was shot so i needed something quick. good on you, let me know if u wanna do this it took about 20 minutes.

so you drilled holes in the shroud surrounding the E fan

that was one thing i worried about i looks like it cuts off the edges of the radiator so its not getting totaly cooled

yes id send pic but i cant and it sounds like youi have idea of what im talkin bout. iether cut out with dremel or drill big holes 1/2 " drill bit and any smaller bit in spots where 1/2 in wont work i laid my edge distance and hole pitch out pretty nicele so i wouldnt ruin integrity or shroud, i wasnt sure if itd make difference but it did big according to temp guage. good luck. it isnt hard but do it with radiator out anf fan off of radiator that way you can set everything up perfectly and while your at it 180-160 tstat would be best.

For those that are running a thermostatically controlled switch, how is it set up? Which temp sensor do you use, where is it installed, which relay, etc.? I'm seriously interested now that I see how well the fan fits.

I'm using the $55 thermostat you get at Schucks. Works excellent.

The wiring diagram provided answers all your questions. (There is one extra power wire, a blue one, in case you have two fans)
