Electric Drain Arrgggh!
Electric Drain Arrgggh!
The battery on my 1979 RX-7 won't stay charged.
I'm so frustrated with failing to find the cause, I'm taking it in to some electrical gurus who know what the hell their doing to isolate the issue.
I did have the alternator replaced a while ago (and paid too much for labor and parts). I'm really wondering whether that isn't my "weakest link".
The other cause might be my Alpine stereo tape deck (yeah, in 1979 the Top 40 hit was "Tragedy" by the BeeGees, I think?). Yes, yes, I do intend on swapping that fossil out. There was also a stereo booster installed after market. The power switch is shut off, but I can't help but wonder if that isn't the new source of a drain. The car was stored for some time and I wonder if wires just got corroded.
ArrrggghhH!

The way Ive heard to isolate that,, is to take a current tester with a light and touch it between the negative battery and the ground wire. If it lights up bright, then there is a draw. Then pull each fuse in succession till the light goes off. Once the light goes off there's your draw. I haven't had to do this just yet.
