electric antenna wiring to new radio
My 85 GS had a Clarion audio system with 4 speakers and an electric antenna. The antenna went up and down properly but the 2 rear speakers were dead. The rear speakers were amplified by an original equipment Clarion amplifier in the compartment behind the driver's seat. The front speakers made a gawdawful racket when adjusting the volume control. I replaced the radio and the two rear speakers and bypassed the amplifier since the new radio didn't need it - and that amplifier was probably responsible for blowing the rear speakers anyway.
Now here is the question. Apparently there was some kind of tricky antenna power switching going on inside the old radio because the antenna power lead on the new radio won't raise the antenna or lower it.
I removed the antenna. It has THREE power leads coming from the motor. I can make it work up and down using a 12 volt battery, but I have to change polarity AND switch terminals to do so. Let's call the three antenna leads A, B, and C. If I make the antenna extend by connecting A+ and B-, then I can retract it by making B+ and C-.
I can make that switcheroo using a 12 volt DPDT relay from Radio Shack. The trouble is the clever folks at Mazda changed all the wire colors between the antenna location and the radio compartment. I can't find continuity on any of them. It looks like I'm going to have to pull 3 new wires to the antenna unless someone on this forum has a better solution.

Hey,
I had written up a huge thing about how you should use the search, and exactly the two things you're looking for (the thread with the SPDT relay to make the switcheroo, and a thread with a wiring diagram for the back of the radio) but I decided that since it was my b-day yesterday, and my party's today, I'll actually just give it to ya!
Thread talking about properly wiring up a relay:
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hlight=antenna
(which also links to another related thread)
Thread with the wiring diagram:https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...wiring+diagram
But use the search next time!!

Leave the stuff at the rear alone, use the power ant wire at the deck, the tricky thing about it? Its negative trigger , instead of positive trigger.
You need to locate the power ant wire in the car's harness behind the radio, its in a 3 pin plug. One of the wires in that plug is 12V ign, another is dimmer , the other wire is the power ant wire.
Now when you find the wire, you need to get a 4 point or 5 point bosch (or whatever) relay.
86 and 87 go to ground
30 goes to the car power ant wire
and 85 wire go to the radio's blue (blue/wht) whatever color power ant is
this is all covered in a search.
