Elec issue - turn everything on and car dies
Little problem I faced last week in a rain storm. Turned on headlights, wipers, rear demister and the fan for front demisting, and my voltmeter on dash dropped below 12 and car didnt drive too well (EFI).
So today I did some testing. My ECU is wired direct to the battery, and gives me a voltage readout of how much its getting, so at idle I turned on wipers, headlights, rear demist and the fan. My voltmeter on the dash dropped below 12 again, and the ECU volts dropped a little at first... after about 1 minute as the idle got progressively rougher, the car just stalled. ECU was reading about 12.4v when it died. basically revs went up and down, but each time it was harder for the revs to go up.
Turn off all those electrics and its back to perfect.
All these things run thru the fuse box in the drivers leg area right? Maybe my main power to there is not doing too well? or somethign else?
ideas?
Cheers,
Paul.

sounds like you were just drawing to much power for that shitty 60v alternator. Time to upgrade to a S5 80v or 3rd Gen 100v.

I have new battery cables, however the wire running from the fusible links to the fuse box inside the car has not been replaced... and I think everything runs off this.
My idle is already at 1000 rpm..
I will see how I go this weekend.
