Edelbrock 600 Choke Questions
i picked up a edelbrock performer 600 for damned cheap, slapped it on the 13b this morning and although i'm still working out some minor bugs i think it should be a interesting adventure!
now for the issues. the carb will not fit on the intake manifold without removing the choke cover, which thus makes it unusable. not such a big problem but it does get cold enough to require a choke here.
now, has anyone tried using a carb spacer to see if it will raise the choke up high enough so it wont hit up against the coolant pipe? if so, how big?
i'm also having troubles getting it running, but the car has been sitting for a month and battery is charging now.. not having a choke doesnt help either.
heres a pic, and yes i have changed the fuel line and put in my APR, hehe that was just for test fire up
any other comments from people who have any info on running edelbrocks on 13's LMK! this is going to be a bit of a experiment for me since all the info i've found on here was for 12a's running them.

i was thinking of getting one of those adapter plates that turns a spread bore into a square bore, but im not sure the height will be enough. perhaps if i use a really low-profile air-cleaner and a 2" adapter it will rock n roll properly
pluggin PCV and such is no problem, its getting the car to startup, idle and function properly im working on now. i really need a new battery, this one has been drained one too many times

love the braaaap
I'm using the same carb on my car. I haven't test fired it yet or anything, but I can tell you the carb barely clears the hood with a standard 10" round air cleaner. Its sitting on a Jay-Tech intake manifold, which is a "long ram" design. Probably about 1" to 1.5" higher than a RB manifold I think. Put simply, if I didn't have solid engine mounts, the torquing of the engine would ram the air cleaner into the hood. I didn't have any problems with the choke, but I have manual choke, mabey that makes a difference? But I did run into clearance issues with the linkage on the front side of the carb (closest to front of the car). I had to modify the thermostat cover to clear the linkages from the throttle plates.
As for getting it to run, its probably just a lack of the choke. I figured with the stock setup on the carb the car should at least idle but thats going to depend on the engine too. I have a 6 port 13B.
Here are some pics of mine. Mabey it will give you some insight.

nice, another edelbrock user!!
i'm not having clearance issues at all. i definetaly have 2" to spare. specially if i use a low-profile filter.
your manifold must be kind of weird since this sits even lower than the holley did.

Ya, I wanted to use the edelbrock because they are easy to tune, easy to find parts for, and its different from what everyone else uses on the rotary. I personally think it will work better than a holley would. Simple carb for a simple engine, know what I mean.

No, it is not stock!

Oil Injection????
I can't see in the photos how you are doing the oil injection lines. Are the housings from an SE with direct oil injection? Is the porting stock??
I run an Edelbrock 600 in my 84 GSL, but of course I don't need oil injection. I had a 675 Holley, and I think the Holley gave slightly more peak power, but the Edelbrock is much nicer for cold running and for street driving in all conditions. The manual choke works well. I had to raise the hood slightly to clear my custom made air box. Everything is hooked up and working, including the cruise control.
