E-Fan and Pulleys

I'm really considering doing the E-Fan conversion on my '85 SE. Once that's gone the only thing on my car is the water pump and the alternator as the AC and Air Pump are removed.

So... I'm thinking it'd be a good idea to reduce the rotation mass as much as possible by swapping the stock pulley with ones that are lightweight and have just the one rib. On other vehicles people make the argument that the pulley weight helps balance the engine and that removing that weight can cause problems - even if that were true on a boinger I'd expect there not to be any issues on the rotary - agreed?

Is there anything difficult about removing the stock pulley(s) and replacing them? Where can I buy nice lightweight pulleys that will serve my purpose?

I don't think lightweight pulley's would really make any difference. Either get a dual pulley, or put a 3L220 belt around the water pump and main pulley.

Stay away from the aftermarket pulleys, they are not recommended for normal street driving.
Once you put on the ef you will notice that the engine will rev much quicker and smoother. If you want to see how this is, remove the fanclutch and rebolt your pulley on and go down the street once. You will not believe the difference. When replacing with an electric fan, make sure you get one like flex lites black magic that will coll sufficently. I also recommend that you wire in a fan switch into your radiator so that it keeps on and off like a vehicle that
came originally with one. rx7doctor
