E brake cable removal? Suspension swap related

Hey people,

I finally had time to tear into the 85 SE to get the front and rear suspension for my swap.

Everything was easy....except the damn E brake cables.

Now, I followed them through the frame rail looking section to the first connection it could come apart at. Its a little cotter pin deal....I take that apart...it separates....seems pretty easy.

Now, it doesn't want to go through the frame section. What gives? Does it go back through there towards the rear of the car to come out....or no?

I got frustrated and just chopped the cables in half with some tin snips which did the trick for removal....but I know there has to be a way to do it without cutting.

Does it only go one way through the body? Can it be pulled out towards the back?

Or, is it only supposed to come apart through the caliper section?

it has little clips on the back side. thats probably whats holding it in. i cut mine as well with removal, but i had to take the time when i put them in. its just like the clip that holds the brake lines in the front to the frame. just look around on the frame rail where it comes out, youll see.

Easiest way I found is to unscrew the adjusting nut on the ebrake handle in the car, then taking the cables off the caliper. Unscrew it a lot, it needs to be loose to get the cables to come off the caliper. Of course, on the caliper it's two bolts and then pull it up and off.
They do snake out of the frame after you remove the retaining thing, but the passenger side is a bit difficult to get at.
