E-Brake adjustment???

Trying to adjust my e-brake... i got out my trusty wrench and tried to tighten up the cable at the handle, but to no avail... i heard a pop, and yeah.... nothing good. The cable looks frayed, but still werks so i know its not busted. The piece that locks into the handle seems to be stripped. Any advice??? Is there another point that i can tighten?

The lock is a flat spring clip that sits around the long hex adjusting nut. If both of those are intact, it should hold the adjustment needed. It's so simple of a system, it looks like it wouldn't work. Adjust to where the e-brake is engaged by 4-5 clicks. Handle must be in down position for adjustment.

You may need to get underneath and check the cables for rust and binding.

They are intact, i thought i said that, the long hex nut doesnt want to stay in the same spot and the adjusting nut doesnt spin inside the long nut. Maybe i'll just break out the rust penetrant and keep on wrenching

The outer hex nut is all the needs to turn, the inner remains fixed. If, when turning the outer one, it's binding and snapping back, penetrant would be my first step too.
