The dumbest question you'll ever read.

And it's coming from me no less.

I have to take off my rear drivers side wheel for various reasons. I took off the lug nuts and...nothing. Am I missing something? I'm going to guess there is another nut beneath the center cap, but I can't get that bitch off. I've never had to take a wheel off of a rwd, so forgive me on my stupidity. Can someone verify?

No, its only the 4 lug bolts holding the wheel on. Chances are, the wheel hasn't been off in quite some time and has corroded itself in place. The only thing I can suggest is taking a rubber mallet and smack at it untill the wheel comes off. Hit the wheel itself, not the tire. It will eventually come off. But DON'T use a regular steel hammer. You will damage the wheel.

It always happens at work with the big trucks... its just stuck on there, dirt and being there for so long with all the pressure on it..Kick the tire or hit it with a sledge hammer with the tire elevated from the ground. Also, dont hit the rim

Sometimes at work we have to hit the tire with a sledge hammer as hard as we can 5-10 times before it will break loose! but i'm sure in your case it wont be too hard.

Good luck!

a rubber mallet? may i suggest a 30 lb rubber mallet then! lol... hitting the tire wont do any damage with a steel sledge. Unless you have 40 series tires then i wouldn't try and aim for the tire

Well, the car sat for probably 9 years...so the tires are a bit..dry rotted. I still can't get the son of a ***** off. I already have calices on my hand from swinging the rubber mallet.

I'm like |--|...yeah, that close to hooking it up to my pos Hyundai to rip it off...

I got it off after much frustration. I found out why it was so tight too. I guess it's the hub? The part of the rotor assembly that sticks into the rim. I was rusted beyond recognition, and had locked it together.

Again, thanks for the help.

I said rubber mallet on the rim itself because it would have a more possitive effect on the hub, rather than the tire bouncing around wasting most of the energy induced by the hit. I got my wheel off by using the rubber mallet. A 10 lb sledge did no good on the tire, but the 5 lb rubber mallet did the trick. I even tried a torsion bar that was converted to a pry bar used by my dad to manipulate 4000 lb dies. That thing must weigh at least 25 lbs.

USE A TRUCK when it's that bad. Or, actually, any kind of car with tow hooks on the back will do as well.

I used to use my truck for LOTS of odd stuff. Pulling stubborn wheels off cars, pushing shopping carts at Albertsons when I was a cart bitch (very adviseable! Job gets done MAD QUICK)

Lol, I used my little pos Hyundai to push carts at Wal*Mart. Granted I didn't work there and it was 2 am... Those carts make a nasty noise when they hit the curb at 60.

Yeah, and it's really tough with only the one vehicle. We used to use one person up front to GUIDE the carts, and I would push. Damn, that guy was stupid!
