drove the turbo project for the first time this weekend

My TII swap is generally done, and I can drive the car now.

damn, finally.

its been like two years since I started this project.

okay, on the the car. I picked it up from the exhaust shop on friday, this was the first drive.

Started up fine, but I could not (and still cant) get it into first gear. It is totally gone, it just grinds really hard. Every other gear is fine.

so i pull out in 2nd, and I drive it home. It drove almost perfectly, but I was going really easy anyways. Then I ran out of gas about a block from my house, it sucked.

After a bit of walking, I was back home. The 3in turbo back exhaust with magna flow mufflers sounds great.

After putting the interior back together I drove it around all sat, it drives great and the motor is strong. I have not yet got into boost, as a wire is loose for the secondarys.

I can hear the turbo spin up when I get close to boosting in the high rpms, and it sounds great, and the tial 50mm sounds excellent as well.

got some pics of the new exhaust, the finished interior, the finished engine bay and a short video of it running

Starting and revving, its cold btw.

Looking real nice. Like to hear how that magnaflow turns out.

Surely you gonna hook up that heater soon?

So is the Miata the daily driver? Have you added a turbo to that vehicle too?

Gregs - dual belt is a definate next, the alternator setup is weird, I only have the battery terminal hooked up, and it seams to be working fine. it does sometimes squeel when its cold, its a cheap belt because I was broke when I was trying to get it to start for the first time a few weeks back.

Im going to a huge local yard next week to try and source a dual pulley from a scooby or something.

Rex4life: no heat until I have some extra money to get the radiator moded for a return. (pricey)

Pjr: the miata is my sisters car, I drive a slighted modded 94 Ford Probe day to day.

lol... Why does it seem that 80% of Miatas are owned by women? Nice cars though. I've always been kinda interested in owning a turbo Miata.... they are supposed to be a riot!

Looking good!! How loud is the Magnaflow?? Are you using any presilencers? I had 3" to an Ultraflow and it was waaayyy too loud for the street.

I'm starting to like Miata's now, they're great handling cars.

Did you brace the obx mani? I'm curious to know how long it would last before cracking.

I had the OBX manifold professionally TIG welded. I had to have a new turbo flange added, so I had the welds on the engine side reinforced while I was at it.

I do have a small exhaust leak somewhere that I have to find.

Awsome! Good to hear it's up and driveable. Too bad about 1st gear, that's strange.. I hope to see you and the car next weekend at the meet. I need to make my car quiter/less obnoxious, I'd like to hear yours.

I have no doubt Ill be at the meet in coon rapids on sat. If theres going to be two full Turbo conversion 1st gens there, Im sure there will be some other cool **** as well. I also plan on going to University later that night.

The video I posted does not do the exhaust justice. I am very pleased with how it sounds.

Its a 3 in turbo back (crush bent), there is a small 3in center in/out 6x8 muffler in the center, and a 14x9 in muffler with tip at the rear and it is over axle.

I can clearly hear the fuel pump over the exhaust,

I just have a bullet muffler in the center and a smalish ultra-flo? at the rear. It's too loud for my taste.

Can't wait to see your ride next weekend!

That looks fanfuckintastic! It took me two years as well so dont sweat it. I just switched to the magnaflow race, sounded great at first but then the stutterbox fixed that. Im sure it would have lasted had i not done that, has kind of a deep sound to it. Anyway, your car is a sickass sleeper so get that thing tuned and go teach someone a lesson.

oh there will be plent-o-lessons taught at my School.

Theres a Rich *** hole here who rolls a brand new 350Z with 22in SPINNERS!?!?!?!! and thinks he's hot ****. It has a Propulshun sticker on it, but it doesnt sound or run like its got any mods.

Spinning the tires with spinners looks kind of cool though.

But anyways, Im going to school that kid for sure. as well a some other V8s around the area, I guess Mankato is trying to build a drag strip, so who knows.

Thanks for the compliments, many thanks go to the Turbo guys on the 1st gen board that have helped me along the way. Setzep, 680rwhp, P-28, Carl to name a few, you guys know who you are.
