Driving my 84gsl and it full out died?

I was driving my 84 gel and I was in third gear at 4000 rpm and my car bogged hard and I dropped it to second to keep it going. And that didn't help it just died. I rolled to the curb and shut it down and then i got to loud backfires and tried starting it up and no luck just kept cranking but wouldn't start. I recently had rb muffler assembly installed two days before this happened but I am no expert and am not sure if it was the cars fault or mufflers somehow. My guess is some sort of fuel issue like the filter or pump perhaps. Also my gas gauge isn't working all that properly for the last couple weeks before this.

Any ideas would be awesome I have the car at the shop but no one can look at it till tomorrow. Thxs guys

Well, you have a good place to start, check the fuel filter, i have had that issue before where it just died due to fuel starvation

Then check to see if your fuel pump is working

I don't believe this is related to your exhaust upgrade

mine did the same reacently, there is a ruber hose that goes from the pump to the filter it was pinched. some sort of fueling problem is my guess.

Not meaning to ask a stupid question, but you mentioned your gas guage hasn't been working properly. Are you sure you didn't run out of gas?
