Driveshaft/differential noise

I have the rear section of my 85 stripped to the metal, and there are holes (being fixed as we speak) in the rear wheelwells, but I noticed at cruising speeds there is a distinct noise coming from the rear, sort of a "WWWAAAaaa WWWwwwaaaa WWwaaaaa" sound. Anyone think this is a potential problem? Would that redline stuff be a good idea?
Thanks!

Not really a steady tone like a whine, not a grinding noise either (tough to describe), but a varying type of Waa, waa, Waa sound, fairly low pitch. Might be semi-normal at 130K+ miles, just want to make sure I'm not gonna endup with big problems. Again, there is a rust hole 7 inches in diameter in the driver wheel well. Migh not hear anything once that is fixed. You recommend the redline stuff?

Does it sound anything at all kinda like a helicopter? Does it increase speed and intensity with your car's speed? If so, sounds like rear wheel bearings. Get em replaced.

Right on.

I've got the same noise coming from my '79 159K RX-7, and I believe it's wheel bearings, as an Open diff doesn't normally have many problems with noise and whatnot...

When the noise starts if you put the car in neutral and it is still there its most likely ujoints. Only way to be positive is to pull the driveshaft put it in a vice and check them. You can't always tell if they are gone while on the car.
