Drivers side dash vent wont close

Now that it's hot again and I'm using my A/C I realized that the drivers side dash vent is allways letting hot air in from the outside even if I'm on recirc. Has anyone had this problem? If so any resolution. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I have the push button controls for vent / ac / recirc.....

On my 85 GS there is a lever by the side vent that controls the function of the vent no matter what you have set the A/C to. Even if I set mine to the max A/C ( recirculate) if the the lever is set to the vent ( up) position it will still vent hot outside air. I have to set it to the down (recirc) postion for it to work.

That lever often comes disconnected inside, or breaks. You don't want to know the fix, lol. You might be able to look in with a flashlight and hook a wire on the lever and close the internal door.

If its disconnected and that much of a PIA to do something with... I'll just block the vent with something. My air is Ice Cold but that vent is negating any of the cold air and Tampa is starting to get a bit hot.

I do. Haven't taken the dash apart, but have most of the easy covering pieces off under the dash and around the instrument cluster.

I have a replacement vent switch - but looking for advice - are they relatively easy to replace?

do as trochoid suggested and close it manually. over time they stick and people force them either open or shut and snap the lever. dont block the vent, close it using alernate means.

I broke it, about 10 years ago. I just shut it manually, but wanted to know if it was doable to replace without taking the entire dash apart. Have a replacement I bought a few years ago, but have never installed...
