Door seal rubber
 

Anybody know where I could find, if I can find, the rubber seal that runs around the door? Not the weather stripping around the door sill or the glass channel, but on the actual outer door edges. Mine looks like piranha have been nibbling on them, from sitting in the sun for over a decade without being used or cared for. Will I be cursed to find decent condition used, or does anybody know of new, or a way to replace it with maybe rubber from another car or something? Or is it even replaceable? Thanks

Oh, I also need the beltline molding around the side windows. It is broken into 20 pieces on each side and allows water to run free into the door when it rains on it. Black Dragon Automotive is usually a good place for FB parts like this but I don't see the door rubber in their catalog. but do see the belt line moldings for only $15 each.

Does seal #3 look like it to you? I think it might be, now that I look again.

Yes. That's the one. I installed a set about a year ago. The door will take a little more effort to close after you put them on but eventually it takes shape and it'll close easier.

Good to know, thanks! All of my seals other than the door sill seals and the hatch seals, are in very poor, weather and age worn condition.

Personally I like the OEM from Mazdatrix or dealer. They fit better for me.

i got my set from a dealer for my s4 and have no regrets oem works

funny... as a vw guy I love this place as they are the best and sometimes only place to get rare early water cooled vw seals.

I'll look into OEM from Mazda first, but if the prices are too high or I can;t easily get them, I will probably order from them.

To avoid another thread, how hard is it to find a windshield for our cars? I would imagine with the design being over 30 years old, they aren't as plentiful as they once were, but surely most glass repair/replace companies have them or can get them. I'm worried about the metal frame around the window getting bent up and damaged. How durable is it? Looks like it might be flimsy and thin walled.

I replaced my Driver's Door rubber w/ an OEM part from the Dealer earlier this year. I think it cost me $80 or. It was well worth it, it fits great and come with all the plastic clips pre-installed in the rubber.

I, rather by Brother-In-Law, just replaced the windshield in my '83 a month or so ago, as a giant rock hit it and cracked while he was borrowing the car. I don't know what company he used, but he said they were able to get an OEM Mazda windshield. The company did a great job, the trim pieces were in no way damaged. Honestly, if he didn't tell me, I wouldn't have ever known. If you'd like to know price, I can find the receipt for the repair.

Thanks. No need for the receipts, I will have to have a new one no matter the cost. An angry technician at a shop that the car sat at for a long time with the previous owner got angry and threw a big wrench at it and left a softball size smashed in area on the passenger side of the windshield.

I recently got a price of $240.00 installed.

Where'd you get the clips for the metal trim that goes around the windshield? My first gen is in the paint shop, now, and I need to see about getting those plastic clips.

I chuckled when I saw that 2011 Vintage Rubber referred to the Mazda RX-7 beltlines as "Roll Up Glass Scrapers". The OE manufacturers refer to those as inner and outer beltlines. It's great that they have a supplier for them, though!

I picked up a set the other week because i also have the trim off. The only trim that i know is tricky is the drip rails above the door, but if you are just fixing the windshield, you should have no reason to take these off.

I replaced the rubber door seals with the Black Dragon seals last fall. The doors take a little extra effort to close, but pop out quite nicely. They break-in within the first couple months and become easier to close.

They really weren't difficult to install. Just make sure that you get the seal under the lip that is built into the top of the door before attempting to glue the rest of it on, else it will dry and make a mess on your door. (ask me how i know)
