Does this sound right? (exhuast)
I took these video clips just for the audio, because for my camera to record audio you have to take a video...great.. So just listen to them and don't worry about the video, I've made it as crappy as possible to shrink them down.
This is my first RX-7 and the only one I've ever heard running, so to me it sounds some-what like a miss, but maybe thats just the rotary buzz. The car hadn't been cranked in almost a week and was cold so thats why the idle is high and you can hear it drop down. Just listen for the "miss", it's probably normal, but I'm paranoid.
This is a '84 GSL-SE by the way...stock EVERYTHING, 73k miles.

The second video probably illustrates what I'm talking about better...

Was it missing when you were reving it up? It kinda sounded like that. My 12A does that when its cold (engine). When it gets warmed up real good and has ran a little while the miss goes away when reving. it is still there at idle but that just may be the difference between carb and FI.

Well, like I said this is after it sitting, and I haven't had the opportunity to listen for it after I've driven the car long enough to get it really warmed up..
Any other opinions?

id change/clean the plugs. then adjust the timing a little. add some form of direct fire ignition (DLIDFIS or the new MSD-DIS) may smooth it out enough for your tolerences. chec the 1st gen faq page sticky.
mine idles the exact same way.. and im not complaining, because about 3 months ago it was choppy as ***!.
Carl.
P.s. loose some weight fatty, did you see how much lower your car was when you got into it!! LOL J/K

love the braaaap
Sounds just like my car did when I still had the 12A in it. During warmup it would miss like that. I think its pretty common for an older engine to do that, especially when the compression starts to get low.

I think I'm going to replace the plugs and plug wires since I have my doubts that they aren't stock... I couldn't believe it but when I first got the car the air filter looked almost like it came in the car from the factory...such abuse.
As far as getting it running to my tolerances, I have no problems with how the car runs, I was just wondering if it could be a early warning sign of impending money...

Sounds fine to me for a perfectly stock exhaust system. If you really want to clean that up, it's likely not so much a 'miss' as it's just dirty components that are causing some inconsistency in the idle quality.
I'd change out the cap and rotor, check your ignition wires (or replace), and see if that helps somewhat.
If your fuel mileage is doing well (about 18/22 for SE's), then your EFI mixture may be fine. If mileage is off, you may want to post back here and we can help you with getting everything tuned up.
What RPM is that idle, BTW? That would help, since low idle on rotary engines tends to cause 'hunting' or slight variation in idle speed just due to port flow and fuel mixture (I know your car has injectors, being an SE). My 84SE idles at 1k RPM like butter. HTH,

****ty Tune= Low #'s
mine sounds like that when the choke is out and it sounds worry kinda up and down at idle but after it warms up and the choke goes back in it backfires with a little flame

Now that you ask I can't remember my cold idle, I believe right after I crank it, it's about 1700 RPM, then after a minute or two it drops to about 1200. Warm start is about 800 RPM.
Thanks
