Probably not. Pumping twice is a pretty time honored method for starting a carburated engine. And if that does the trick for you - good deal. It's a hell of lot easier than using ATF.

ATF is primarily used to help seal rotors on engines that have sat for a long time or have worn seals, or both. ATF is also good to use if you've badly flooded your engine. Remember the article link I gave you for unflooding procedures?

Some folks also use ATF to remove carbon buildup in their combustion chambers. That procedure is a little more complicated and I don't advise you try it for a while.

How freaking hard is it to pump twice I've been pumping twice scince I've been driving. When ever I drive someone elses FI car they look at me like I'm crazy (it's a habbit) when I pump the gas before I start the car. (yes I know it doesn't matter on a FI car) And now I have to keep myself from the gas on my "new to me" FI car on start up. Again it hits me, is it that much of a pain to pump twice?

ok that 4-step trick that i told timmya2 (step 3: pump twice) is straight from my buddy whos a rotary specialist.... not just some kid. he owns his own rotary business and has been dealing with rotary engines probably since the 70's. im not attacking you or anything timmya2, but this is like the second time youve questioned this trick... ITS SAFE lol. thats all i have to say.

yep, its safe. its normal to have to do that on a carb car, the 7 and the TA both need a few pumps to start them. Its all good dude.
