Do you think it's the fuel pump?????

I have an 81 gls 12a. I turn the key to the on position and the fuel pump stays on. But when I take the send hose off there is no fuel coming out. All I hear is a gurgaling noise (like the gas want to come out but not enough sucking power). I know I have gas in the tank. The pump also makes a rattleing noise and shakes.
Do you think it is time for a new one or what????

thank you
john

Before replacing your pump, I would make sure that the pump is getting gas. You might have a hole in your pickup tube causing the pump to suck air. Pull off the line right before it enters the pump and there should be gas running out of it. Also, a fuel filter replacement will usually solve 90% of these types of issues (and they're dirt cheap, 5 minutes to replace). Good luck!

I unhooked mine and it POURED out. Made a pretty big mess. Didnt think it would come out that fast, but it does. Take a cloth and wrap it around an air wand, place into fuel fill hole and squeeze trigger. Make sure you have the fuel pump "in" unhooked. It will get the clog out, if there is one.
