DLIDFIS troubles

Well here it goes, I installed it all in there (I'll try to put some pics up later) started her up and she ran fine untill it started to idle. It was idling like crap, but the rest of the RPM's were fine(It really craps out under 1000 RPM's over that and it's pretty good). Well, I had my electric fan wired to the power from the trailing coil. So I took it off and started her up, but it only made a little difference. After a bit a fiddlin with the carb mixture and stuff I figured out that it would idle good only for a little bit and then go back to idling crappy if you keep the RPM's up for a little bit. I'm thinking that at idle the altenator is not able to supply enough juice so it makes the idle really crappy. I would appreciate some of your thoughts, Thanks.

check your timing, you also 100% sure you wired everything up properly? i had some problems with mine but after making sure it was wired correctly everything worked as it should.

Here are some pics. I went over my wiring and I'm pretty sure everything is right. Also, if it was timing wouldn't it idle bad all the time?

I don't have a timing light so I haven't been able to check it yet, but I think it might be too advanced. When I put the car in a higher gear with low RPM's and push the gas pedal down to accelerate hard it makes kind of a chirping sound. Could this be detonation? Also, I checked for spark at the spark plugs and they all sparked good, but when I put them back in it helped the idle a little bit. The idle is the wierdest part though, I will rev up the car and let it come down to idle and it will idle fairly smooth around 1000 RPM's, but after letting the car sit and idle awhile it will drop down to around 900-800 and sputter and just idle really crappy. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be?

Well, I got it figured out and I feel really retarded. I FINALLY was able to borrow a timing light, stuck it on there and the leading timing was so retarded that I couldn't advance the distributor enough to get the leading mark anywhere near the pin. So I moved on to the trailing and it was dead on. So I knew it was the pickups then, so I switched around my wires from the pickups to the ignitors started it up and it ran so much better. I got my carburetor mixture set back right and it runs awesome now. Thanks for the help, Paradox.

You're not all that retarded. It happened to me when I was unfamilier with GM HEI ignitor modules. The timing light showed that the W and G wires were reversed. A quick switch-around and it ran much better.
