dizzy's

is an 82 distributer the same as the 85 se? they look identical but the #'s are different. my understanding was that the 79,80,s had the old style points and the 81-85 are all the same. how is the se's different if it is? should i put it in my 84 gs or wait and get a 2G one?

I'm pretty sure there is no difference between them. Perhaps the mechanical advance is a little different, but i doubt it. I've swapped an 81 and an 85 dizzy and noticed nothing different.

FYI, only 79 had points. 80 had electronic ignition, it was different than the 81-85 cause the igniters were mounted on the drivers side shock tower instead of on the dizzy.

The advance curves are a bit different between them, but it is not a big deal. I am currently running an '82 dizzy on my SE. No problems, whatsoever.
