Dizzy is in wrong... need help!

Ok, when I put the dizzy back in, I apparently put it in the wrong gear teeth and now my 12a runs even worse than before. I need a reference point to put it back in the right slot such as TDC. I know that there is a notch on the e-shaft that the front bearing goes over, but I can't get the front pulley bolts off... Is there an easier way to determine tdc? I also, suspect that my pulley is on wrong b/c when I used the timing marks as a reference, it would barely run at all.

Do not take the front pulley off!!!! Your bearings will drop and you will ruin your engine!!! There is a way to find top dead center using the flywheel. Look up in the archives something like "finding tdc" or something wacky racer knows how to do it. And I think he's the one who wrote the thread. I would post the link but I'm on my cell phone.

Absolutely do not take the main front pulley off unless you take the proper steps first.

TDC thread from archives.

In my opinion its easier to remark the pulley than take it off while the engine is in the car.

if the pulley is in deed on wrong, once u find tdc and the marks on the pulley don't line up, remove the 4 10mm bolts(not the center bolt) and turn the pulley til the mark lines up with the pointer on the front cover.

^ Exactly. I left out the word bolt. Now that I've confused the issue.

Center- stock pulley mount, E-shaft bolt and main pulley. The pulley mount has a key slot in it so (unless you leave out the key) it can only go on one way. You can see the 4 holes for the 10mm bolts that attach the pulley to the pulley mount. These can go on 3 ways that are wrong and 1 that is right. These are the bolts you want to remove when you need turn a stock pulley to get the timing marks correct.

Bottom-If you have a Mazdatrix/RB and probably other aftermarket pulley the stock pulley mount is not used. The pulley and mount is/are one piece. That means the E-shaft bolt must be removed to install one. That also means they can't be put on wrong because the key way is fixed to the pulley and the timing marks.

Top- Pre-RX-7 rotaries have an extra hole in the pulley and mount with a rivet (red line) to hold it to the mount. They also can not be put on wrong unless you remove the rivet.

Fix'd. Stock SA's also benefit from this advantage.

Thanks for all the info, I will just do the inspection plate at the flywheel technique. Seems easy enough with a partner to turn the engine. If my car needs much more work, I'm going to become an expert like yinz.
