distributor swap into a 74' 13b

i will be getting a first gen with a 74 13b swap at the end of this month and i was wondering if i should do a distributor swap to an 81-85. if so, would it be just like doing the swaps for the 79'?

Does the motor have dual distributors? I have no idea how that would work. If not, then just get an '81-85 dizzy and go nuts.

well i have a dizzy from an 84 12a that i can use when i get the car. when i do this should i go ahead and do the 2nd generation coil swap or just use something like MSD or jacobs coil? has anyone ever used a jacobs rotary fc-1000. they have it offered at rx7.com and it says its designed just for the rotary. if i were to install that how much trouble would that be?

I gotta do that on my REPU too. Got the dist last summer and someone stole the J109s while it was sitting in the bed . What kind of car buddy is that? So I finally got some J109s from ebay.

it really helps to get the wiring from an rx7 that plugs to the ignitors on the dist., otherwise u'll have to make them. since the wreck, my car isn't here at the house so i can't look and tell ya how the wiring goes, but i'm sure someone here can and probably has pics too. it's really not that hard so long as ur not afraid of wiring.

I'm assuming you've already checked to make sure the ignition is a points ignition. It sounds silly, but you didn't mention it and depending on who did the 13b swap they may already have done it.

Assuming they haven't, I think you only need the dist and some wiring. The thread on the '79 points swap should be pretty much the same info you need.

I got a neighbor's '74 REPU running last week and swapped the points over to DLIDFIS. It ran beautifully. So much better than with points; like a night and day difference.

i checked and it does have points and not the ignitors on the distributor. should i just go ahead and switch it to DLIDFIS? would doing that be pretty much the same as installing DLIDFIS on one without points?
