disassembling the seats
The wife is attempting to redo the seats and doors of our beloved FB. I took apart the back of the seat yesterday, and was pretty easy. To get the bottom cover off will require removing the spring/latch mechanism from the side of the seat.
Is this big spring going to want to snap or recoil when I undo the bolts? or can I just remove the bolts, and retension the spring on reassembly?
I don't want to lose another finger tip over such a simple chore and those huge tight springs can be viscious.
Thanks to anyone who has experience in this.

If you are talking about the zigzag wire on the bottom of the seat, it won't go anywhere. It acts more like a torsion spring than a coiled one. It's safe.
The coil spring between the seat rails for the seat adjuster will bite though.
Post pics of the seats when they're done.

He's talking about separating the top half from the bottom half of the seat. It's the spring that tips the seat forward from the lever at the,...back of the seat????
I took mine apart this summer and with the seats out I had no problems but then again I remember thinking how anyone could then reassemble them. BTW, those were my junk car seats and they went in the garbage afterwards since I was just satisfying my curiousity.

Surely someone has replaced the seat bottoms before?
