Direct fire conversion using 2nd gen trailing coils?
I'm trying to convert my '85 GS to 2nd gen direct fire, but all the yard had was the trailing coils from an '86. Can I use these?
I started the conversion using the directions posted by Metallic_Rock, but found that there is no resistor in the trailing unit. Does anybody know how I should procede from here? Basically I'm left with two 2nd gen coils and nothing else.
Should I just split my wires from my original coil and run them to the two new coils? I really don't want to burn up an ignitor trying this out, because I don't have a spare right now. If anybody knows more about this than I do I would really appreciate a shove in the right direction. Thanks!!!

I did not use the tower coils from the 2nd gen. According to Metalic you can not use those! Take out the resistor and run your wires from your existing lead coil to the wires on the second gen coil per the instuctions by M.R.! Any other way will not work. I tried and they must be wired up per instructions.
What I mean by I tried to wire them different is that I had them wired backwards, pure accident. It would hardly run. Therefore I would suggest following the instructions.
