Arrow Direct fire 2nd gen leading w/Accel 300+.....NEED HELP!

Ok for the past 3 months I've been comparing the Crane HI-6, MSD 6A, and the Accel 300+....and size, power output, needed power draw....i've pretty much decided on the Accel 300+.

Now for the tricky part. No one has made a write up of it that I can find so I'm trying to figure it out. Using http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/49300.pdf as a reference...

I made a crummy drawing to depict what I think is supposed to work out like.

PLEASE HELP!

Just curious, but what would be the advantage of this compared to just running the 2nd gen direct fire?

same thing as running MSD...more power to the coil for hotter spark and a wasted multiple spark for more of a clean burn.

Ok...it does but my Q is did you remove the 1st Gen ignitor and somehow attach your leads to the distributor. And are you running through the 2nd gen ignitor???

GSLSE addict, please give me some input too! Much appriciated.

If you are going to run a second gen leading coil you should also run a second gen trailing coil. It gives a clean look. If you get the mounting bracket for the two trailing coils off a second gen you can remove one of them and mount a leading coil in it's place. Also the second gen ignitors would not need to be used. You can use the stock 1st gen ignitors. For leading some use magnetic pickup directly to their aftermarket ignition amplifier. My friend tried this and had problems. I just used stock ignitors and it worked for years. Wiring for every thing is going to be same as stock, but add an ignition amplifier per instructions. And oviously rerouting the ignition wires on the leading coil to connect to the plugs directly from the coil.

No, I gutted a bad igniter and ran the wires to it. I happened to have an extra igniter plug and hooked it to that. Here's a pic of a gutted igniter and how you need to do the wire inside:

There's two kinds of 2nd gen coils also. Oh, and i'm not using the 2nd gen igniter.

BTW, here's the thread to read:

Yep. It is like Kim is saying. I don't know the wiring for the Accel offhand, but I know it will take the place of the ignitor. This means that you don't use the 1st gen or 2nd gen ignitors with this setup. You can gut a bad ignitor like Kim did for a clean connection to the inside of the dizzy. The Accel will connect directly to the 2nd gen coil + and - terminals (they are under the plastic cover that says " L1 L2"). You will disconnect the wires that are already connected to those posts and connect the Accel instead.

Interesting. Is the Accel 300 cheaper than the MSD6a?

No. But on ebay the MSD 6A goes for $160 shipped VS the Accel 300+ for $190 shipped. The Accel is smaller, has more power output and draws less from your system. BUT I read somewhere that it only does the wasted spark till ~3000 RPM....

Intersting Kim. I guess I've been interpreting the ignitor to just be a trigger to the coil. What is it's purpose compared to the gutted ignitor?

I thought the stock ignitors receive the fire signal from the distributor's magnetic pickup and hold the connection to the coil for a length of time. If you remove them are you not also removing dwell from your system. I suppose this wouldn't matter if there is more dwell built into the aftermarket ignition amplifier you choose.
