Any tranny (RX-7 that is) will pop right in. Do a little search there's a ton of tranny swap info right on the first few pages

You can basically bolt any rotary trans onto any rotary engine.
The devil is in the details.....Getting the proper engine balance, clutch size, starter, shifter postion and driveline is the hard work.
There are few combinations of engine and trans that cant be done, you just have to match up the right parts and be sure of everything.

i plan on buying a new clutch set, i just need somthing to bolt up with not problem, and it can't be the original one i have, right now i am looking at a 84 rx 5 spd, and a 87 5 spd, if i use either what do i have to do to get it to balance?

If you want minimal trouble and no BS,then heres what you need.
Any 5 speed from 81-85 will bolt right up.
Keep your existing flywheel and buy a new 215MM clutch for 79-82 model year RX-7's.
There are no balance issues if you leave the flywheel on the engine.
The 85 trans will bolt on,no problems,no mods.
The 87 would require some work to fit up and is probably in worse shape than the 85.The 2nd gen cars are heavier and have more power, but still rely on the same some-what frail trans, to push them around.
