Diff Leaking Fluid

My differential seems to be leaking fluid out of the front where the drive shaft connects to the diff (where it spins). Is there some sort of seal in there that needs replacement? It is definately wet with oil there and oil is sprayed all over the bottum of my car above that connection point. Diff was about a quarter quart low.

Diff is an 82 LSD with unknown miles.

I looked at my open unit (not in an axle housing) and without taking the gears out I could see no seals or anything.

Thanks

How labor intensive is replacing one of those?

easy. remove the driveshaft and the pinion flange via one nut. remove the seal and replace with a new seal. pretty straightforward..
