Did all disc brake rear ends have limited slip?
Nope, only the SE's had LSD from the factory. The GSL had rear disks, but they were not vented, as in the SE.
This is one reason why the GSL owners (and other models) are often looking for SE rear axles to swap out - with the corrected brake line threading for the later FB's. HTH,

sorry but, thats not entirely correct. All GSL and GS-SE's have a LSD. People look for the -se suspension for the larger rotors, more accessable bolt pattern, and 2 peice hub/rotors.
yeah i think maquire is correct....I have a GSL and i did the wheel test where one would spin one side of the wheel to the left (or right) and the non forced wheel should move in the opposite direction.
Also, Mazda Comp. tells people to start with GSL to build a super 7 series car.

My buddy is looking at an RX-7 that definitely is NOT a GSL-SE...it does however have discs on the rear. The guy selling it said he was building it to make a race car, so he swapped the rear end from a GSL so he could have discs. Just wanted to see if the car has LSD.

Actually, all pumpkins will interchange. I swapped in an SE axle and the new rear end was loud as hell. I went back and grabbed the taller gears and extra clutch in my GSL unit and it's nice and quiet again - pumpkin swap is easy if you just borrow a slide hammer and 4.5-5.5" hub face adapter (free at Autozone)
Badges are cheap, saw GSL-SE badges on a 84 GS once, what a joke. The guy paid GSL-SE price for a 12a car, funniest thing I ever saw, wish I would have could have pulled that one off myself.
What makes a '84 GSL over a GS, well GSL has:
Sunroof
Cruise control
Power windows
Leather (optional)
Rear Wiper
Disc brakes
LSD
Power steering (optional)
AC
A GS could have the sunroof option and AC dealer installed.
