Diamond in the rough

I've been eyeballing this FB since sometime last year. Today i finally asked the shop owner is it for sale. He told me that for $1000 its mine. I asked, "what's wrong with it" and he replied, "Has a good motor just needs a fuel pump, and i don't have the titile but it's legal." Later he told me that it is a 84 and that it was repossessed. My questions are what is the mechanic's lien, how does it work, and do yall think this is a good buy? Sorry no pics at the moment.

Getting a title can be a big pain in the **** and expensive(depending on the state). Also, by "needs a new fuel pump", he probably means "the entire fuel system needs restoration". However, it just might be worth it depending on the condition.

It's in TX. Yeah i was gunna try starting fluid to try to get it running and do a compression test. The body looks straight just the bumper is dented. As far as i can see the car has little or no rust.

In Arkansas almost any towing company can get you abandoned title for around $100 and a 45 day wait. Justinfox is probably right about the fuel system if it's been sitting for a period of time. If the motor has compression and the body and interior is good I would give $800 for it give or take depending on the mileage and trim level. Keep in mind i bought an 85 SE with 200k for $700 recently.
