DIAMOND racing wheels

Im thinking of purchasing some diamond racing wheels.

I was origanally set on getting 13x8's
But the guy on the phone told me they mainly sell 13x7's with a 4" backspace.

Im using them for a CSP prepared car. I want to run Kumho EcstaV700 235-45-13's on all 4's

Firstly will 234-45-13's fit in the front on a 7" rim with a 4" offset?

Secondly will I be better off with an 8" wide wheel?

I run those V700s on 13x8 w/ 4" backspace on all 4 corners on my -SE

that's the pretty common setup. You can go 13x9 if you want to get a little more tire to the ground, but you'll have to roll teh fenders up front.

Look up the v700 specs on tirerack and I think that 7" is nnarrower than preferred anyway...

how much clearance does that give you on the inside of the strut?

I need to put a 1/4 inch spacer on the stock rims to get enough clearance for my tires because of my spring setup.

I want to make sure I get the right offset

Will, the 13x7 4"b/s is what they sell to the IT racers cause of rules limits. You will have to roll the fender lips front and back but they will clear. They will fit the Kuhmos your looking at. I just ran mine for the first time. Hoosiers are better but for the price ill stick with these for now. And they have enough tread to withstand a little rain on the track, sort of an intermediate tire.


ANyway, in CSP your not limited by wheel size. I ran 13x8 4"b/s diamonds when I ran in CSP. They wont really clear the rear but I never had a problem with them hitting. My suspension was very stiff. On the front they WILL NOT clear the stock fenders at a lowered ride height. I had to cut off the stock "flares" off to make it work. But the 13x8's will give better grip. SO your choice. All out performance, ghetto looks? Or give up a little and live with 13x7 rims.

Here is my 81 with 13x8 diamonds 4"backspace. 225/45/13 hoosier's. i had to roll all the fender lips, especially the front ones.

i will be switching tires to the victoracer ecsta 235/45/13 and it's size is very very similar to that hooser.

you do want at least a 8" wide rim, i've seen many autocrossers with 9" wide rim which would stretch the tire some more and give a hair bigger contact patch.

how many of you guys are running 12a suspensions and how many are running -SE's?

I ask because I'm running the 13x8 4" on all 4 corners on the SE suspension... In the rear I have gobs of room, the front is pretty tight on the inside, but there is no need to run a spacer of anysort (on GC coil-overs)

If I do a full-lock turb I can get the outde edge of the wheel to rub the inner fender, but the only time I had contact with the bodywork when I had the perches to low and I nailed the top of the tire on hard, straight breaking (no fender rolling wouldn't have helped that.)

are some of you running lower spring rates where you possibly see more body roll, or different shocks? I'm confused where all the discrepancies are coming from

GC coil overs, , 350# spring, MR2 illuminas up fron set on 5, camber caster plates (eyeballed settings) stock fron sway bar. (to be changed still)

Hey GSLSE,

I think it is the suspension(12a vs. 13b). I ran your set up(you have seen it) with 13 x 8 and had to roll the fenders.

Man I guess I was runnin wayyyyyyy lower than you guys cause there was no way on earth they would clear w/o cutting the fronts.

I am stilling looking for the 13" by 8"s becuase that is what the fastest folks in the first gens in my region seem to run. Also, Jim Susko from G-force recomends this size.

i have 205-60-13'' tires ,what back space would i need and would ya recomend 7'' or 8'' diamond wheels , i would want 8'' if they will fit

WOW this is an old thread brought up!!

I would run 7" wheels with 4" BS.

I run 225/45/13 Hankooks or Hoosiers on this wheel with no problem.

I used to run 205/60/13 on the same wheel.

how did the 205-60-13'' look, does the wheel have a deep dish look, and thanks for the help. im still trying to feel my way around this sight

Yeah it kinda has the Nascar look to it with the Diamond wheels... I like it better now with Panasports!!

old thread! we've run everything from kumho, toyo, to hankook to the hoosiers on the car, and we notice that the hoosiers run wide.

if you say had a toyo R888 a hankook and a hoosier, in 225/45/15, that the hoosier is about 1/2" wider. so they all work on a 7" wheel, but the hoosier really needs an 8" rim

Agreed!! My Hoosiers look at least 1/2 inch wider than my hankooks.

I still am impressed at how well my hankooks...hook!!

I ran Diamonds in 13x8 w/4" BS. No issues with fitment, and the car looks pretty tough with them on.

I thought about moving up to 13x9 to run the Hoosier 255/13" tires, but after extensive research decided to go with Hankooks instead (absolutely no regrets there!) so I stayed with 13x8 wheels.

I think this is the perfect size for autocross...

hey everyone im looking for new wheels for my 83 but i dont know what the sizes are or where to get them i want 8 wides in the rear and 5 wide fronts, any help??
