There aren't any suspension clearance problems with running a 4.5" backspace, I assume?

 

This thread has some wrong info.

1st: 13" Diamond Racing Wheels work with SE brakes no problem
2nd: there is no limit on wheel size or tire width in CSP

Also, from my experience if these are race only tires/wheels, then keeping the speedo correct should really not be a concern.

13s will give the best performance increase. It is the easiest, cheapest (since you have to buy wheels anyways it is free or less expensive) to lower the CG of the car.

If you are open to the suggestion you may consider getting 13x8s. With these you could get the Kumho 235-45-13s. Or any of the available 225-45-13 tires.

 

I use 13x8 Diamonds, 4" backspace, 235/45/13 Kumho's.

when i first thought about buying wheels, i went out and got some 17", but they were with the 114.3 bolt pattern because my plans were to get an -se

well, i've ended up with a gsl instead, and traded out those 17" wheels for some cash, and a front air dam

i am seriously considering the 13x8's, for street use. and probably 235/45/13 or equivelant tires. can anyone tell me what those tires would cost on average (for a long lasting, but still sticky tire?)

also i want the wheels to stick out somewhat, so i want a negatiave offset. what would you guys suggest as an offset. im hoping to get fender flares eventually, so i want them to stick out at least 2"

i like the fact that this setup will give the car a lower center of gravity, and in addition with some really stiff springs, i hope i can lower the suspension to lose the gap, yet hopefully not to rub the wide tires. any suggestions on the best spring/shock combo?. i'd probably go tokiko blues, and i think (correct me if im wrong) that the eibach springs are the stiffest?

that's exactly what i want. what have you done to your suspension, and i still don'ot understand "backspace". is that another way of measuring offset?

i've always looked the look of your car in your avatar. have any more pics of it in action at all? im assuming those are diamond wheels?

You're wrong.

You can get any spring rate you want.

These cars (at least I'll bet that DriveFast7 is the same) have front coil over adapters and custom rate springs. I don't think there is any aftermarket spring available that will get the car this low. If you try you will also have issues with your drive shaft u-joints and the the rear suspension not working all that well.

With the springs I have and the tires (225/45/13 front, 225/50/13 rear) I get no rubbing on the front and only the slightest rubbing under extreme g-force/bump combos in the rear. The rear fender lips are rolled to prevent cutting the tires.

Also, there really are no street tires in the 235/45/13 size or for that matter anything wider than 215. You will not find a street tire to fit a 13x8 wheel. You may be able to find something for a 13x7. One last thing. Diamond racing wheels do not come with safety beads as standard. This makes them non-DOT.

Moral of this story is: If you want your car to look like a race car, build a race car. Don't expect that you can (or even want to given all the facts) make a street car look like a race car with none of the fuction. I call rice.

i never really thought of my setup idea as rice, but maybe some of u may think so

i was thinking maybe a stiff spring (whatever brand), tokiko blues, and possibly cutting a coil off the spring to make the entire drop around 2" or so. maybe 2 1/2". 13x8 wheels, with a nice low profile tire and massive negative offset. this is rice?

anyone know the guy who used to post here. "yellowjacket" (i think). i think he called his car pika chu or something. i love the look of that car, and with my setup idea, i hoped my car to be almost identical to his.

so if this idea is no good, what do you guys suggest?. i want a wide as possible wheel that at least fills the wheel well to the fender. i like the idea of a 13, since the car will sit low, in addition to some lowering springs. (is it horrible to cut a quality aftermarket spring?)

also, i've never shopped for low pro 13" tires. what do they cost? i liked my low price kumho's that i ran on my crx. something around 225/45 /13 maybe? any input?

Let me put it this way.

If I saw my own car running around on the street as if it was just a daily driven car and had no actual racing intent I would call it total rice. In fact I am usually embarassed to drive the car on the street. (of course I have only driven it on the street with the 13s a few times, late at night) It has come to the point that when someone sees a car that sits really low with stickers and a healthy exhaust it is automatically "some punk kid". When you add to that, tires that stick out of the wheel wells a considerable amount I think it is even worse.

All that aside.

I don't think you will find a street tire to fit a 13x8 wheel. This is based on what TireRack.com lists. They have a Sumitomo 215/50/13. This will fit a 13x7 or 13x6.5 wheel. There may be other tires out there but I don't know of a more complete list than TireRack.

As to springs. There is nothing inherently wrong with cutting a spring to shorten it. The problem arises when you look at the whole picture and see what other components this will effect. Specifically the u-joints and the suspension geometry.

Make your car the way you want it. I really was just trying to inform you. No name calling was intentional.
