Devilish Fuel Problem
Devilish Fuel Problem
Oh i have been having this fuel problem for a while and i can't for the life of me seem to get this thing solved.
The engine completely cuts out, happens mostly when i an accelerating from a stop and picking up speed. The engine just dies, so i throw it in neutral or shift down and blip the throttle a couple times and usually it comes back in. It happened when i was going about 60 down the road it just died for a couple seconds and came back in. Today it hit over 95 degrees and we actually made a new record, anyways this problem ONLY occurs when it is hot out. When i pulled into my parking lot at work it just completely died. Thats twice it has happened. I came to a stop and started it up, pulled forwards 20 feet and it died again as i roll into my parking spot. I replaced the fuel filter a couple weeks ago so thats not a problem. My fuel pump is no longer whining which is odd. I do smell a faint smell of gas in the cockpit but i can't locate it at all. i don't see any leaking the fuel rail. I tried turning on the heat to see if it's enhanced and nothing really happened.
Are there any fuel components under the hood that could be affected by the heat and possibly binding up?
This problem is pissing me off as summer is actually starting, this whole reliability issue is going to be a problem unless i get it solved. I'm not comfortable driving my car long distances especially when it's hot out. Any help would be freakin awesome.

I'm not sure where the fuel lines run under the hood on a SE but is it possible that you may be getting vapor lock, especially since you mention it is only happening when it is hot. Also, would bad o-rings on the injectors cause this problem? Just some ideas that popped into my head.
Vapor lock on fuel injection engine that is funny....
First place to start is to buy a fuel pressure gauge and 'T" it in to the supply side and make sure you fuel pump is putting out the correct pressure.
Have you drained your fuel tank yet and see if anything else comes out of the tank other than fresh gasoline?

It prob isn't the pump. I put in a new pump and it still does it when the weather changes. Had to make minor adj. to the fuel air mix. Fixed the prob. Could be something else though I just don't think is was my pump.
