Question Dead electrical system 1985 GSL-SE

Damn guys, my beloved 1st gen has no pulse as of yesterday. My Girfriend and I went out to my friend's house last night. We parked the car and we hung out and left the car parked for about two hours. Well.... When we were about to leave we hopped on the car, I put the key in, and my dash was dead, so was the clock between the A/C contolls. I thought to my self with a smille, "I can push it, and start it" thinkin my my semi new optima battery took a **** on me. Well I was WRONG! Natha, ziltch, Zero! I had a mulimeter on me and my battery read 12.99 Volts, and my battery terminals were tight... So I left the car at my buddy's garage. So wtf happed? Thanks I would appriciate any leadts to the sorce of my problem.

First check your fusable links, they are known for wearing out after 25 years and can cause intermittent to full loss of power.
Check all fuses under the dash.
Check all battery grounds, check the wires as well as where the wires contact the body.
Check the battery positive cable as well, if it's never been replaced before it might be internally corroded, it's been known to happen with the factory cables.

TX I had this happen to me

Check the fuseable links first. THEN. make sure the starter is not jammed... My starter was jammed. The starter was pulling enough juice trying to turn over that it killed the electrical system. I had to pull the battery and put back in to reset. I would suggest smacking the starter around with a rubber mallet to see if you can get it to fire over... then i suggest replacing the starter

sounds like the battery is dead it may read 12 volts but it wont have any cranking amps especially if you left the running lights on or a small bulb of some sort. and you should have a reading of close to 12.6 if its fully charged 12.9 tells me somethings wrong with it. try jumping it. if a battery is that low it takes a heck of a push to start a car

Sorry for the late reply fellas. Thank you all for your input! I was going crazy when I check all my fuses and everything was fine! I went through my cables and noticed that my battery terminals were not making full contact with the cables... So I removed the terminals, cut off some of the old copper wire off and reattached both (+) and (-). Bingo! She runs!! I will replace the cables just like DarrenTRS mentioned and I will upgrade from fusible links to a 2nd gen fuse box. My starter has been acting up lately so I will also get that replaced before 7Stock and avoid popping fuses, thanks DallasFC1 for the insider.
