dead battery

dead battery

The other day I replaced 2 coils on my 1985 gsl-Se.Im not sure if I hooked something up wrong or what but if I let my car sit for more then a hour the battery goes completly dead.My altenator isn't the greatest ever neither Its already been rebuilt 1 time.

Sometimes rebuilt alts have a short life.

Check to make sure that there's no volts at the coils when the engine is off. See if any fuses are too warm. Look for unexpected warmth everywhere. If you have to let the car cool down, remove the negative post from the battery (not the positive) then let the car cool down a few hours. If you get a spark when reconnecting then you have a short somewhere. You can find problems by looking for unexpected warmth, and you can also use a voltmeter to find peculiar voltage drops. I prefer the old-fashioned D'arsonval meter with a needle and scale because it's easier to see anomalies.
