Dashpot missing 1983????

I have a small and sometimes large backfire.

Maybe its ACV

but I have noticed the carb that is on this car does NOT have a Dashpot and it doesn't look like it even has a lower plate for plunger to rest against.

If I let of accelerator slowly the backfiring isn't there so I feel this could be the problem.

The carb looks like it has been removed prior to us getting this car.

Question: was there any model carbs that didn't have a dashpot?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

im almost positive your supposed to have one but that sounds like it could be the problem since it doesnt backfire when you let off slowly which is the job of the dashpot

Yeah, there should be a dashpot, it slows down the throttle closure when you let off on the gas...

if the butterflies snap shut, you'll get backfiring...
