Dark subjet... need clarification

Hi guys...

I know that from 78 to 85 you have diferent kind of rotors (78/82 83/85) and probably counterweights.

I know flywheel is also diferent.

but what about the e-shaft?

the e-shaft on a friends car does not look good, and Im not sure if you can swap it for another of a diferent year.

Searched but got mostly sales....

Thanks in advance!

Since we are at it...

I know the best combo is 83/85 rotors and 81 flywheel because this components are the lightest ones.

You need to use the front counterweight from an 83/85 and thats it?

the front and rear counterweights (rear=flywheel) balance the rotors. if you want to use 83-85 rotors you need to also use 83-85 counterweights. i dont think you can use an 81 flywheel with 83-85 rotors.

You definitely want to use the correct (79-82) or (83-85) assembly - rotors with counterweight and flywheel of same years. E-shaft is the same to my knowledge. If you go to a lightweight flywheel, make sure it has the correct counterweight for that particular year.
Not following this would result in a imbalanced engine- probably would run fine, but as you rev it, it would vibriate and be very bad to the clutch on high shifts especially and hurt smooth horsepower. Probably would be bad for bearings and oil-seals too with a lot of high rpm usage.

here's what youre looking for:
83/85 rotors
83/85 front counterweight
83/85 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION rear counterweight
aftermarket fly for 12a, try to get 83/85 as the clutch diameter changed for the bigger (=better) in that series. the larger disc fits into the smaller fly (im a hack, i know) but its not cool.
from the clutch pedal feel (more accurate than butt dyno), the 83/85 pressure plate assy also has a higher clamping force, but weighs a ton more (fact)

edit: captain homebrew to the rescue!!
use the 79-82 manual flywheel after you get your local machine shop to grind off the counterweighting ring on the back of the fly, making it perfectly balanced by itself, then get them to hybrid the auto counterweight to the manual fly... YEAH BABY!

To the best of my knowledge, E shafts are the same for the 12a's for all years except the 12at (JDM turbo model),

the 13b on the other hand has had 2 different models prior to the 13bt, and they were not interchangeable do to balance reasons (unless you grabbed there counter weights and rotors.) the 13bt is the same as the later model, with the exception being the oil bypass in the eshaft, this option did not exist prior to the turbo model.
