How do they look with the standard backlighting? Is there a better bulb to buy that would light them up better?
Any pics after install?

These questions are just curiousity, I'll still take a set.

heres how they look,
these are jose's custom gauges not mine but look the same at night,

kinda a yellowish color,

i had pretty good luck with changing the bulbs as well to add color,

on the 84-85 there is 3 bulbs, the part number is #194 5watts

acording to jose,

they will take place of the original gauge faces ,not overlay,

installation is simple as does not require removing the whole gauge cluster on the 84-85,
unless you want to change the bulb color, then you will need to remove the cluster.

the 79-83 im pretty sure you will need to remove the cluster,
i'll know when i get a setup from someone.

How do you get the front cover off without removing the cluster? It screws on from the back side.

but because all i have is a crappy digi the pics came out crappy,

i did the center needles in red,
didnt get to the other needles yet,
when you buy the gauges i will tell you the "proper" way to change the color of your needles so they are still function "light up"

once you unscrew all the screws the cluster will be loose,
you can then manuver it to get your hand behind it with a small phillips screwdriver to get out the remaining 2 screws that hold it from the top sides

Just out of curiousity, can you do black guages with light silver or white lettering which wouldn't be so flashy with my black interior? i know, unconventional (not really, that's what is already there), but bright white amoungst all my pretty black things would be a bit much, i'm starting to think....

I *love* this look, and would like my 7 to have the same reserved, upscale appearance.

How is it possible that your gauges will look the same at night without customizing the original face to let the light go through. When I did mines like the style you are now doing, the gauges would not light up like the ones I have now... have you tried them on a car yet and compare them both, to see what I am talking about..... Without clearing the original face of the black they will not take the look like the ones I have, unless you have provided some type of lighting for the overlays themselves... care to enlighten me with how they will look the same...

I just want to know how you accomplish this without clearing the black of the original face....

my gauges take a fraction of the time to install compared to other custom gauges,

when you use my custom gauges your old gauges are left unharmed so you still have the option to reuse your old gauges if you wish to do so,
Jose, I think it is a direct gauge replacement. part for part.

That's not the way I am taking it... I just wanted to know how you were doing this without having to modified the original faces....

If is a replacement plastic, I can see how, but the 79-83 are different style plastic... which will be a more interesting task....

By all means continue the good work....
