Question Crrrrikey, What next?

Howdy, Buckaroos....

Trip to Upper Michigan turned out pretty good, though it snowed, and my Uncle Ernie wouldn't turn us loose to have time to visit Seven folks in Michigan....I can only apologize, but my Uncle felt a true need to discuss the recent demise of my Father....

Anyway...Get home, Silver ran fine all the while, my Son goes to work and leaves lights on...Dead battery...Dad, come save me. Take my GSL 12A, jump his car, then suddenly the GSL dies. I dump fuel into the carb, it starts, then dies....Change the fuel filter, blow out the line, clean the screens at the carb. No start. Not getting fuel to the carb. direct wire the fuel pump, now all kinds of fuel to the carb....Check fuses, nothing blown...Guess there's a relay or something that burnt out jumping the Protege? Can anyone advise, so I don't have to tear up the interior tracing the fuel pump wires back to the front of the car?

Two nights ago my Son is running the Protege (his Seven is waiting for new exhaust) As you may remember our Protege is nicknamed "Deerslayer" as it has three kills to its credit....This time "Deerslayer" met her match....A big 'ol Buck, and poor Jon wound up barrel rolling Deerslayer twice....She still starts and runs, but Lordy she's a mess...Windshield busted out, no panels straight except the driver's door....Well, she's earned her eternal rest, 209,000 miles, and a gunslingin' killer of a car....

Soooo, some help please with my fuel pump problem...reponses are most welcome, and tell y'all more later...

Thanx,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....

I hope he's all right.

They give you a whole buncha crap about it if you kill deer with your car down here. A guy hit one with his truck out front of our house, and I coulda sworn there was a drug bust or something because of the number of vehicles with red and blue lights.

Anywho... The fuel pump relay is up under the dash, above the pedals, near your fuse box. At least I think it is. All my RX-7 literature is out in my car.

The relay is directly to the right of the steering colum above the brake pedal it has it is rectangular and has 6 wires going into it, i believe at least two are light blue.
Also check out that you didn't accidentally disconnect the sensor on the carb.

Once more, apologies to my Michigan Cowboys for not being able to see y'all, but your Mackinaw Fudge is the greatest, and you're smoked Whitefish and Lake Trout are to die for... Promise, I'll see y'all in the Spring!

If you've never run it, you gotta do it! I mean Michigan State Route 119....Runs along the shore of Lake Michigan from Petosky North to the little town of Cross Village....It's gotta be about 35 miles of one of the most riotious roads in America! It's narrow, maybe two and a half RX-7's wide, asphalt that twists and bends, hairpins, up and down, around trees, houses, following drop-offs, and turns with double apexs so tight as to honestly make you laugh...I sure as Hell did, over and over again. This is a true 2-seat sports car road, and too narrow for American Iron. If you had a Camero, Mustang, or Corvette, you'd never leave 1st gear, and your brake rotors would be glowing RED! Be great to be in a parade of Sevens going down from Mackinaw to Petosky...What a great cruise/gathering!

Despite the barrel roll, Jon's all right...Not a scratch, but a bit of a stiff neck. He is a kinda stringbean built. State Patrol didn't cite him....Really no reason too, deer leaped out of the woods beside this narrow country road, and it's all over...Maybe I can trade the junkyanrd for some Seven parts? Well, the 'ol corral needed some space anyway, but it didn't need to come this way...

Thanx for the advice on the fuel pump relay...I'll get on that first thing tomarrow morning...I'm feeling positive about the fix. Oh, by the way, a fella pulls into the parking lot in a 1964 Austin Healey 3000 Mark II. It's just beautiful, frame off restoration, two-tone paint job, lovely interior, older fella like me...Car's worth probably 30 to 35 thousand dollars, he drives it like he's haulin' a cargo of eggs. We talk a bit, and eventually I point across the lot to 'ol Silver hunkered down with her oxidized paint and bad-*** wing. He wants a peek under the hood as he admits to rotary ignorance....I prop it up and recite her glories, SCCA victories, International Rally wins, vented disks, LSD, close ratio 5-speed, fuel-injected 13B, etc. He finally confesses to always harboring a bit of trepidation about Sevens and the guys who run 'em....I only smile sagely, and advise, "You've got good reason to.....

A tip of the Stetson,
Denny, from the 'ol corncrib....

Sorry I didn't get back with your sooner. Another time.

It does sound like a relay. I'd have to look in the Haynes for a location, but sounds like others have it down. Glad you enjoyed the trip and the problems waited until your return.
