crazy volt gauge and whining

crazy volt gauge and whining

i think my alt is messed up because i hear a loud whining noise as soon as it starts up. along with my volt meter redlining. i just bought a new battery and connecter cables this morning. and a few hours later it started with the whining and stuff. PLEASE HELP, i really want her runnin again.

whinning sound is usually just a loose belt. Or worn out one. about the voltmeter redlining? Do you mean reaching max Voltage or Least voltage? THanks

sounds like the voltage regulator is out of wack. a new Alt or a rebuild on the existing one is in order. personaly I would find an S4 or S5 Alt and do the swap. the S4 2nd gen Alt is stronger and directly replaces the wimpy 1st gen Alt. you can just go pick up an Alt for an 86 RX7 this will yeild the S4 Alt. BOOM problem solved and your baby is back on the road again.

well it maxes out. it jumps up to max then down a little then back up to maxed, and so on and so on. thanks for the advice ive got to go get it towed from the place its at now back to my house.
