cracked open my first rotary!- w/pics!!

hey everybody!

I just took apart my first rotary engine!!! Man, it was so much fun.

Ok, anyway, I got the engine from a parts car that came with my car, which was in New Hampshire. It was sitting in this SUPER rusted out 84 gs automatic, parked halfway in the woods. There were no spark plugs in it, and half of everything wasn't even connected, so it was fairly easy to pop out.

When I got it home, I just tore into it, eager to learn, and to actually see a rotor. All I can say is, wow, this thing is amazing! It's so cool!! How could anyone ever like piston engines over rotaries? So here are some pics, took them about an hour ago. Tell me what you think of it. (IDK what it's supposed to look like, is it in good condition?)

So, all in, all, it was fun (still not done yet though!) Maybe i'll try porting on the housings or something, and tear into that dreadful look carburator.

anyway, yeah, i'm all excited today. got to drive the 7, (dont have my lisence yet), and took apart a rotary

ok, im done.

wait! pics-

If those housings aren't missing too much of the insert or aren't too washboarded they should be good. If you get a chance, try and get a few pictures of the wiped surface of those suckers.

The irons look pretty good -- only worse I've ever seen was an engine I just took apart a few weeks ago. It had been stored with no carb and no hood for a while during it's tenure at a "buddy's" shop. The rotors were rusted to the irons (didn't need the flywheel brake to pop the Big Nut ) but one of the housings was actually good!

Then there was the engine that had a large metal object dropped down the hole while it was running... with a half inch dent (!) in one of the rotors.

Good times.
