Talking couple new toys....

i've been putting up with my blown out muffler for far too long, so i went and picked up this magnaflow, straight though flow. funny part is it isnt really that much quitier than a totally blown out muffler, it does have a much lower tone atleast. thinkin' im going to put a pre-silencer in there to quiet it down some more.

also after 3 days of fighting, finally got my Intrax springs in. not the best springs i know, but the car looks a little better now and i must admit the handling is much smoother!

here's a few pics..

the thing with the magnaflow is that it will flow better then the Racing beat muffler but there is no way it will be as streetable without putting another muffler/presilencer on. And nothing beats the stock look of the RB chrome tips, that single outlet magnaflow can't compare (no offense) As far as the springs go, I can't wait to change the springs/struts on my car im sure the car handles like new now!

Where did you end up buying the magnaflow from? And the springs?

Oh and if you can could you upload what the muffler sounds like? Thanks!

ya, i was completely aware of that when i bought the magnaflow, but i have one on my supra and the lifetime warranty, the sound note and look is awesome! i got it from lordco for about $100

and yes you're right, im going to go with a pre-silencer for sure. any suggestions on what to use (other than RB)? i heard they are backordered and this car is just budget fun / daily driver

springs i got off ebay awhile ago, got a great deal on those too, real cheap. getting them in the car was a major PITA, but yes the car does drive really nice compared to before, my old springs were saggin' and old. the struts however look like they'd been replaced sometime within the last decade so (being a budget race machine) i stayed with those. if i can find some struts for the right price i'll atleast be replacing the rears.

as for a sound clip, i'll take my video camera out maybe tommorow and see if i can get a quick vid. the exhaust setup right now is pacesetter header to completely open 2 1/4" pipe all the way back to the magnaflow. kind of a throaty sound at low rev's and changes drastically at higher.

bottom line, its still too freakin' loud. but it does sound nice

Thats cool that your making it a budget race car, its awesome to be able to have a realistic goal like that... Anyways, for the presilencer have you considered just running another straight through magnaflow? I hope you have good luck with the magnaflow muffler.

I have always been really impressed by the Racing beat products, all of their products seem to be built tough (i sound like a spokesman). Offiously you decided not to go for the Racing beat products with your car because your on a budget lol... But I don't know what im rambling on about right now, what some don't understand with the RB setup is its for performance and streetability ... Anyways thats a different thread all together, the best way to decrease the sound of the magnaflow would be to run another as a presilencer.

Anyways just for reference what did you struggle with with the intrax springs? Any tips or advice for someone else installing new springs? Soon I want to go with tokico hp's and RB springs, can't wait for a once again tight ride.

ya, as in budget race car i'm just buying mostly generic parts and strapping them on as i go. usually custom making things as i go. haha.

if this was a mint condition car i drove all the time im sure i would buy nothing but RB aswell. their products are very nice. i'm working more along the philosophy of "anything goes" here. so far the car's doing a lot better than when i bought it. i'm very impressed.

cosmetics come next. going to be doing some bondo and paint it myself, should be fun since ive never done body work before... lol

as for the springs. uhh dont have a lot of advice other than lube the living hell out of every bolt you can find, atleast a day or so before hand, continue doing it and eventually the bolts will free up. also i came across a thread that really helped me.

that was with a full tank. my gas sender is screwed, going to be swapping the tank out of my SE soon which should help a bit on fuel flow.

i took that driving with my knee, camera with one hand and shifter on the other so i was keepin' the rev's low, hehe.

still looks like im going to need another magnaflow in the piping or a pre-silencer of sorts.. hmm

Sounds good, can you do a vid on the low end sound as well? Not trying to be a hassle. Also a little side note: my sound has not been working on my computer but for some reason your clip worked!!! I guess the rotary gods just wanted me to hear it!

Paradox: I just use a generic bottle style silencer that you can purchase at any autoparts store. Just make sure it's straight through and not one of the offset kind. With one RB mini presilencer and the bottle silencer, my car is quiet enough to be legal.

But only just.

when you get a pre-silencer on there... doesnt really matter what kind... it will help tremendously. that's basically my old setup. i love the magnaflows and i'm still rockin one on my turbo setup

Paradox, did you do anything about the sound yet?

I had the same problem as you, a blown out muffler and cat, so I put a generic hi-flow cat and a magnaflow dual tip muffer on mine and it sounds really nice -- not too loud, but if I stomp on it you know its there. The cat was about $150 from lordco. Everything is 2.25" from the stock manifold back. I put the cat on so I wouldn't have troubles with aircare (just passed with flying colours), but I'm sure it helped quite it down as well.

Were abouts in BC are you? I live in Kits, but come out to Langley pretty often if you want to come by and see how it sounds.
