Correct reinstallation of front pullys?

Working on a stock 13b SE motor. Pulled the front end e-shaft pullys (AC, power steering etc..) off to clean and paint them. Without thinking, I had rotated the engine by hand a few times for another purpose after removing them.

Now that I have to put the pullys back on I know that I have 4 possibilities for positioning them on the front of the e-shaft.

So, if I align the red timing mark (on the pully) to my timing indicator on the front cover, the arrow on the distributor rotor is pointing at the 12 o'clock position. Is this correct? I want to be able to set the timing in the future and want it to be correct.

Also the main dual groove pully has a white 'dot" on its inner face. What is this indicating? Also the same dual groove pully has a side by side green and yellow slash painted on the outer edge also.

Thanks for the helps guys.

I think I gt it figured out.

I rotated dizzy/pointed the rotor at L1, then aligned the yellow mark on the pully to the timing pin on the cover. Should be correct.

If you removed the front eccentric bolt the thrust bearing can fall out of place, especially if you rotated the engine. Removing the pulleys also increases the chances that it fell. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may have a problem. If it did fall and then you reinstalled the pulleys and tightened the bolt then it is now crushed. You should consult with more knowledgable members before you proceed.

^ doesnt sound like he removed the pulley hub, but just unbolted them from it, so no worries there

there are a couple of other ways to confirm the crank is back to TDC

1. Remove the crank pulley bolt, but do not remove the crank pulley hub (for the reasons stated by Watson above). When the engine is at TDC, the small square key stock that keeps all the important front stack parts from moving around, will be inline with the exhaust. or if looking at from the front, the 9oclock position

2. another way involves removing the rear rotor spark plugs, a mirror and flashlight. You pretty much watch through the trailing plug hole as you turn the engine by hand, until you see the apex seal pass. mark the position of the crank. Continue turning until you see the seal through the leading plug hole. Again, mark new position. TDC will be roughly in the middle of the 2

its for this exact problem that starting in 86 with the FC's, Mazda intentionally drilled the pulleys and hubs with one the the holes "off" from the rest, so it could not be installed in the wrong position

Thanks Guys. I didn't get into the thing that far. Just removed the 4 bolts to undo the pullys themselves to clean them up and repaint them. Its all back together now.

Good advice though. I'll not be making this mistake again!
