Cooling Sensor
Hey all, I have a question about the sensor on the bottom of the rad on the drivers side. Namely what does it do. Obviously it's a temp sensor...but for what. I checked on a program mechanics use for repair info and it stated it is "a cooling fan temp sensor", this seems odd for a car that has a mechanical fan (85 GS). Anyway, I need to know cause I need to buy one, because I broke the old one off in the rad...got a little over zealous with tightening.
Any help would be great. Thanks

The one on the top (as far as I know) is a coolant level sensor...when it detects low coolant levels (ie rad not full) it turns that add coolant light on your dash on.

The water temp switch #2, at the bottom of the radiator, goes to the ecu. What it does from there, I am not exactly sure, but it may relate to the hot-start assist. Water temp switch #3, at the back of the waterpump housing, is for the choke hold and release. The one at the top of the radiator is the low coolant sensor, this one is critical.
