Coolant level sensor problem

Well the coolant level sensor (that is what screws into the top of the radiator right?) broke today. So i went to the local junkyard and got another non-broke one and put it in. i took the car out and got it warm and noticed it was not leaking around the hole but around where the wire attaches to the sensor. Do i absolutely need it or can i just plug it with a bolt? If so, what size bolt do i need?

the low coolant message is gonna stay on. then you have to keep checking the coolant level more often. and make sure it doesnt overheat.

I may have several of those darn coolant level sensor. I dont know the thread size BUT if you plug it up, you will get an annoying warning light and the chirping sound .

Actually the OEM Mazda ones are about $35.00 from the dealer also.
The sensors are the same from 79-88.
You can also use the 89-92 ones if you change the connector on them.

Workinprogress80,

I do not recommend blocking off that sensor or any critical sensor that monitors vital warnings for the engine.

Napa offers the sensor for around $13.00 plus tax according to their online info.
The part # is FLS610.

If you ground the wire going to the sensor, then the warning won't come one, the risk is that you won't know if you are low on coolant.
